Lent 2011: A Complete Change of Heart

This weekend, my wife and I had the opportunity to donate some unused baby items to Abortion Alternatives, Inc., a pro-life ministry within the Diocese of Saginaw that provides both emotional and physical support to women with at-risk pregnancies, who are considering an abortion. Last year, Saginaw Diocese-based Knights of Columbus Councils, including our own Council #12423, combined efforts to help the center obtain the training and materials necessary to operate an ultrasound machine at their facility.

During our visit, the AAI staff member shared with me that a few months ago, a woman who had previously leaned toward having an abortion changed her mind after seeing her unborn child on the ultrasound. She had a complete change of heart, brought about, in part, because of the charitable efforts of the Knights of Columbus. I can tell you, the very thought sent a shiver down my spine. Through my Council, I was able to help save a life. What a feeling!

As we make our way through our Lenten observance, may we also pray for a complete change of heart, bringing us to turn ourselves away from temptation and towards the light of Christ. Refocusing our thoughts, our words, and our actions on what is right and just can help change the world. It certainly did for the little girl who is soon to be born to that mother!
